Dresses Every Woman Should Own

Monday, December 26th, 2011

Picking out the perfect dress to by can be a very difficult task.  There are so many different styles and colors to choose from it may sometimes seem impossible to pick out a great dress.  This guide will not only tell you what dresses every women should own, but why you should own these dresses and more importantly how to wear them and what to wear them with.

The first dress we are going to talk about is the A-line dress.  This is what I like to call the back up dress as it looks great on anyone in any situation.  This is the ultimate quick fix and back up dress.  When you are in a hurry or you just need a different look, this is the dress to choose.  It is such a great and versatile dress because you can add just about any accessories and you are set for any occasion.  I recommend that a woman should own four of these dresses, one in black, one in white, one in a solid neutral color, and a blocked bright colored one.

Maternity Wedding Dresses

Friday, October 7th, 2011

If you are surprised with a pregnancy while you are planning your wedding, you may start to panic about quite a few things. One is finding maternity wedding dresses that are going to look good and fit you on the day of your wedding. It can be daunting to choose something months ahead of time while hoping it is going to fit just right on your big day. There are plenty of ways to be sure you are getting a great dress that is going to fit, and you don’t have too look too far to get what you want. There’s not need to stress about the dress or the wedding.

What is great about maternity wedding dresses is that they do not have to have the ‘maternity’ tag on them. Some dresses are made with a design that allows enough room for a growing belly. These are often high waistline dresses that are not too form fitting. If you choose one of these, all you will have to worry about is getting the hem at the bottom fixed right before your big day. Your belly will pull the front up making it uneven on the bottom. For some dresses, this won’t matter. For other dresses, a simple hem adjustment is all that you need.

The Evolution Of Cocktail Dresses

Sunday, May 22nd, 2011

During the 1920s when the cocktail dresses were introduced by Coco Channel, this referred to semi-formal dresses that can be short or ankle length and worn particularly for cocktail parties. They were meant for little “late afternoon “events where finger foods and cocktail drinks were the main menu. Cocktail gatherings them were mostly business in nature or may be connected to an unveiling of an artwork or a showing of an art exhibit.

Conversations were called tête-à-têtes and dwelt mostly on the art exhibit or the business launching agenda. Cocktail dresses were first introduced as soft, figure forming garments in plain cuts or soft silhouettes. Cocktail gowns which reached ankle lengths were slowly taken out of the picture because designers referred to them as ballerina or dancing costumes.

During that era, cocktail dresses can be of any color. The black dresses emerged and slowly gained attraction despite their relation to mourning occasions. The first black mourning dress that saw any occasion was the one Queen Victoria wore for a long time to signify her mourning for the passing away of Prince Albert.

Used Wedding Dresses – A Guide

Thursday, January 27th, 2011

Getting married is very expensive these days, so a lot of couples are looking for ways to keep the costs down. One of the best ways to do this is to go for a used wedding dress, instead of a brand new one.

Preowned wedding dresses are widely available these days, both on and off the internet, and the prices for second hand wedding dresses are much cheaper than new dresses, so you can really save a lot by choosing a used wedding dress instead of a new one.

Thrift shops may have wedding dresses, as may some consignment shops. Ebay has a large variety of both brand new wedding dresses (the cheapest ones come from Asia) but also many used wedding dresses. Most second hand wedding dresses have only been worn once and have been dry cleaned afterwards, so they are generally in great condition, even if you buy them from a thrift shop or on Ebay.
