Red Lipstick
Thursday, December 22nd, 2011Red lipstick has been part of a woman’s prerogative as far as history can tell. The Egyptians women even took a palette into the after life to look their best, the Japanese Geisha’s applied it to perfection on their porcelain painted faces, theVictorian powdered their faces to enhance the contrast to their crimson mouths stained with poisonous mercuric sulfide and 21st century women including the 1940’s woman maintained the right of a woman to look good under all circumstances and dawned the red lipstick even as they worked long hours in weapons factories to bring their men. The woman of today is no different and there is no doubt that the right red lipstick lifts s a woman feel good and ready to take on all challenges and just have fun!
So why has the red lipstick staged such a big comeback now?
Looking at the 2009 catwalk, and the pervasive influence of the 40’s fashion, you do expect designers to tap into a woman’s previous right to look striking and stunning under any circumstance. With a recession looming overhead, the red lipstick is the instant booster at an affordable price. Estee Lauder’s chairman even coined the term lipstick index in 2001, when he noticed that lipstick sales increased after the 9/11 economic downturns. We are facing an even bigger downturn and boom an instant booster is needed to uplift the female psyche! By the way it’s cheaper than a whole outfit or accessories.
