Alber Elbaz is not your typical fashion designer. Not only does he look a bit different than most fashion designers, his life has also not been spent in the glitz and glamour of Paris until he became one of the world’s best fashion designers.

You see, Alber Elbaz was born in the city of Casablanca in Morocco, in 1961. His whole family emigrated to Israel when Alber was 10, and he grow up in the working class neighborhoods of the city of Holon. After having served in the army, he studied at Israel’s finest design school – Shenkar College of Engineering and Design and moved to New York City in 1987. He worked for a manufacturer of typical “mother-of-the-bride clothing” in New York for around 2 years, and then moved on to Geoffrey Beene, where he worked for 7 years. This was his stepping stone to the big league. Alber Elbaz worked for Guy Laroche between 1997-1998 and for Yves Saint Laurent, before being hired as the artistic director for the fashion house of Lanvin in 2001.
